I had two pieces of toast (gf) with butter for breakfast.

Day 23

Day 23 (Saturday, November 21, I went into work at 7:00 AM.

I was very tired and very hungover from the night before.

We were having a huge bag event sale, and it was a busy and chaotic day. A lot of running around.

For lunch, I had lentil chips, apple sauce, and a beef taco that I had left-over from Taco Bell.

When i got home from work, I ate an Amy's Thai Noodle dinner.

I went to my Mom and Dad's in the evening, and I ate some meatballs with spaghetti sauce. I also had quite a few chunks of block cheddar cheese.

Day 22

Day 22 (Friday, November 20), I went into work at 6:00 AM.

I had two pieces of toast (gf) with peanut butter for breakfast, along with apple sauce.

I had Chipotle for lunch- grilled chicken bowl with just lettuce, black beans, fajita veggies, mild salsa, and dressing. No cheese, sour cream, or guacamole.

When I got home, I ate rice with corn, with tamari sauce and sesame oil.

That night, I went to the Village Restaurant in Cuyahoga Falls to watch my Dad play out with his friend Steve. I was good, and didn't eat any food (because they had no GF options), but I drank four cranberry and vodka drinks.

On the drive home, I stopped at Taco Bell (bad). But I managed to order GF. I got two cheesy fiesta potato bowls, and three crunchy taco supremes.

I got home really late, didn't get to sleep till about 1:00 AM, and then I had to wake up at 5:45 AM to be at work by 7:00 AM.

Day 18 (Monday, November 16) is going well.

I had the day off work.

I ate two slices of toast (gf bread) with a little butter for breakfast.

I had a green smoothie (kale, spinach, blueberries, strawberries).

I went running. I hadn't been running in four days, so i pushed myself more than I usually do to make up for it.

For dinner I am having an Amy's Thai Noodle dinner (gf, df).

Day 17

Day 17 (Sunday, November 15) I slept through my alarm, and therefore was half an hour late to work. I was completely disoriented when I woke up, and everything felt strange because it's something very unlike me to do.

I worked 7:30 AM-4:30 PM. I ate lentil soup again for lunch.

When I got home, I had a gf hotdog on a gf hot dog bun.

A couple hours later, I ate a Chipotle salad bowl for dinner. (grilled chicken, lettuce, black beans, sour cream, mild salsa, and dressing). Also had some tortilla chips with guacamole.

I had two mixed drinks- Jack Daniels apple whiskey with apple cider and water.

Day 17 recap:

Day 16

Day 16 (Saturday, November 14) I slept a lot later than I had planned on sleeping. I had wanted to go running before work because I wasn't scheduled to work until 10:00 AM, but I didn't get out of bed until 8:30 AM. So I basically had time to get dressed and ready for work, and then go to work.

I worked 10:00 AM-6:30 PM. It was a long, stressful, busy, and annoying day. I brought Amy's lentil soup and applesauce to eat for lunch.

When I got home from work, I made a gf indian chicken frozen dinner. It was good, but didn't fill me up. So I cooked some rice noodles and covered them in ginger curry sauce. I stayed up way too late for as tired as I was.

Day 16 recap:

GF
No running or gym
Long day running around at work

Day 15

Day 15 (Friday, November 13) I went to bed around 7:00 AM because I was working an overnight, and clocked out of work at 6:00 AM.

I woke up around 11:30 AM because Ben was waking up, and I wanted to see him before he went to work. So 4 and a half hours of sleep.

I had an Amy's Tofu Scramble meal for breakfast/lunch.

I pretty much laid on the couch all day and read. I was too tired to do anything else, and I didn't want to sleep. Around 5:30 PM I set my alarm to wake me up in an hour and a half, and I fell asleep on the couch.

I think for dinner I made a gf rice noodle bowl that heated up in the microwave.

Day 14

Day 14 (Thursday, November 12) I woke up fairly late for me (9:30AM).

We finally went grocery shopping this day!

Bought so much food!

I made a green smoothie (kale, strawberries, blueberries), and drank half.

I had a bowl of Cheerios (gf) with cashew milk for breakfast.

For lunch, I heated up an Amy's frozen Thai noodle meal (gf, vegan).

I also ate a lot of Lentil chips.

I drove to my Mom's in the late afternoon to go to Bath & Body Works with her. (Got a super awesome Balsam Fir candle and Christmas candle holder! Deer and pine trees- my favorite!)

I was also picking up my car, which i drove back home and then tried to take a nap. Not really successful. I ate another bowl of Cheerios and cashew milk.

Got in the shower, and then got ready for work. I worked an overnight, 10:00PM-6:00AM (Friday morning). EXHAUSTED. For food at work, I ate left-over Chicken Marsala and Lentil chips.

Day 14 recap:

GF
No running or gym
Overnight shift at work- tired!

Day 13

Day 13 (Wednesday, November 11) I went running in the morning!

I was actually pretty sore from running the previous evening, so i didn't push it too hard.

I had a banana and some almond butter for breakfast.

I also had a Zone gf protein bar for a mid-morning snack.

For lunch, I got another McDonald's Southwest grilled chicken salad.

I worked 3:00PM-10:20PM- EXHAUSTED.

When I got home, I heated up a frozen Chicken Marsala meal in the skillet.

Day 11

Day 11 (Monday, November 9) I worked 8:30AM-4:30PM, and I went running after I got home from work. Yay!

I ate left-over GF pizza for lunch at work, and also for dinner when I got back from running.

The dinner-pizza situation was actually not good because I was dipping the pizza in Nacho Cheese sauce. I ate a lot of cheese. I didn't feel good afterwards, or the next morning.

Day 10

Day 10 (Sunday, November 8) was not super-healthy, but could have been worse.

Gluten-free pepperoni pizza was the main event today- breakfast and lunch. Also, some grilled chicken salad.

I drank a Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Latte with soy milk in the afternoon.

A lot of laying around on the couch and watching TV (tired from yesterday).

Went on a 30 minute night walk around 6:00 PM.

Day 10 recap:

Day 9

Day 9 (Saturday, November 7) was an interesting mix of things.

For my on-the-go breakfast I had a few bites of apple and some gf Cheerios.

I drove out in the early morning to Warren to meet up with family for a shopping trip to Grove City, PA.

Once in Grove City, I had a snack of concession stand fries (I shared, so didn't eat the whole thing) around noon because it was the only food option at the time.

I drank water throughout the day.

Around 4:00 PM we ate at a Japanese food court place. I ate chicken teriyaki with rice and veggies. Nothing overtly gluten, but there could have been some in the sauce.

For dinner, we ate late at a restaurant called the Iron Bridge Inn. I ordered really well-no gluten. I had the salmon and spinach salad.

Later that night when I got home, I ate some of the tortilla chips from Ben's Chipotle lunch, and I drank a hard cider.

Day 9 recap:
GF as far as I know.
No running or gym, but a lot of walking around while shopping from 9:00 AM-8:00PM.

Day 8

Day 8 (Friday, November 6) is going well.

I brought Cheerios, and two applesauces to work. And, it was not filling. So I ate some Doritos from the communal break-room stash.

Once I got home, I drove to my Mom's, and then went running (new shoes!).

For dinner I ate a bowl of instant mushroom-flavored rice noodles (gf) and some pork and peppers that my mom had made.

Once I got home again, I sprinkled some tortilla chip crumbs with cheese and had mini-nachos.

I'm currently drinking a hard cider.

Day 7

Day 7 (Thursday, November 5) was good.

Sushi, Sudafed, green drink, and two hard ciders- that was pretty much my day.

We went to Heinens and picked up two delicious rolls of sushi along with some groceries (KALE).

So, I had sushi for lunch, and a green drink (kale, blueberries, and strawberries) after that.

I didn't eat any dinner because SUDAFED, and I had two Angry Orchard Stone Dry (less calories) hard ciders before bed.

For lunch, I had two gf waffles with a little butter and syrup. I also had another gf turkey sandwich.

For work, I packed green beans with olive oil and salt, and a small thing of apple sauce.

When I got home from work, I made a turkey sandwich with gf bread, gf Buddig turkey, mayo, and mustard.

I visited my parents that evening, and had a bowl of gf, meatball stir-fry.

Not so great, I made Annie's gf macaroni and cheese later that night. Late-night carbs are never good, even if they're gf.

Lots of water
Calcium supplement

Day 4

Day 4 (November 2) is a somewhat success.

Took leftover gf pasta with green beans, an apple, and walnuts for food for work.

The problem is when I got home from work, I got into the leftover buffalo chicken dip. :(

It's so hard to resist when it's sitting in the fridge like that!

So I had quite a few chips with buffalo dip.

And that's all the eating for today.

Also, I've been drinking lots of water today.

Recap for Day 4:

GF
No running or gym
work cardio
very sad buffalo-dip incident

Day 3

Day 3 (November 1) of my road to health went well.

I started the day out right and went running! Well, walk-running. I walked for half the time, and ran the other half.

I went to this beautiful semi-wooded trail two minutes down the road from our apartment, and it's a great running spot. It was also a gorgeous Fall morning. It was so hard to get myself to go, but I felt so good afterwards.

After arriving home from running, I made a green drink with the usual suspects- fresh kale with frozen blueberries and strawberries.

I packed green beans and applesauce as snacks for work.

When I got home from work-around 10:30 PM- I had gluten-free spaghetti for dinner. Not the best choice, but it was made for me, and I was starving and exhausted. A lot of carbs.

Day 3 was a success except for ending it with carbs.

Day 3 recap:
GF
Not dairy-free (I may or may not have had a few bites of left-over buffalo dip)
Went running

Day 2

So, Day 2 (October 31) did not end so well.

I did not have a completely GF day. I also ate a lot of dairy.

The day started out good. I packed a healthy lunch for work - Annie's vegetarian, organic, gluten-free chili, and two unsweetened, organic mini apple sauce snacks.

But, my work day was really hectic and busy, and I was barely able to eat any of my lunch. I also wasn't able to drink much water, so I arrived home dehydrated and starving.

I attended a family Halloween get-together that evening, and the main focus (besides kids running around in adorable costumes) was food. Delicious food. Deliciously unhealthy food.

All of the kitchen's gigantic island counter was covered with crock pots full of dips, and plates full of cupcakes and other sweets. There were healthy options as well- a veggie platter and oranges dressed up like pumpkins.

But, I did not eat any of the healthy options. I was sipping on a warm Fireball whiskey apple cider, and digging into the buffalo chicken dip and the rich potato soup.

The main problem for me throughout the evening was the buffalo chicken dip and tortilla chips. I dipped a lot of chips into that dip and shoved them in my mouth.

Buffalo chicken dip (for those who aren't familiar) is a lot of fat, a lot of sodium, and a lot of dairy.

My minor gluten transgression came in the form of an apple dumpling carved into the shape of a beautiful rose. One of our younger family members made them, and I wanted to be polite and try one. I only ended up taking a few bites, but it still counts as eating gluten. Politeness will ruin a lot of your health goals.

Day 2 recap:

Worked 7-3 (some cardio due to running around)
No gym, running, or any other exercise
Not GF
Not dairy free

Day 1

 Day 1 (Friday, October 30)

I'm happy to report that I've made it through the day completely gluten-free!

Yesterday, while I was creating this blog, I was downing a green smoothie for inspiration. This green smoothie consisted of kale, frozen blueberries, frozen strawberries, and water. (I don't measure any of these things out, just wing it). I've had a Vitamix for around 6 years, and every few months I will maybe make one or two of these green smoothies. With the start of this road to health thing, I hope to make these smoothies on a regular basis, if not everyday. Dark, leafy greens are essential to health.

I was completely inspired today to eat healthy because of this blog. When I packed my lunch for work this morning, I packed brown rice mixed with green beans, drizzled with olive oil and a little bit of salt. I also packed a baggie of walnuts and two containers of apple sauce (unsweetened, organic) for snacks. I brought my glass 14 oz water bottle with me, and I downed 42 oz of water while at work. (The only way I can get myself to drink a lot of water is if I make it a competition and keep track of how much I am drinking, and that way I can challenge myself to drink larger amounts).

When I got home from work, I was starving, so I immediately heated up more brown rice and mixed it with half a can of Annie's chili (organic, all natural, gluten-free and vegan). I did add a little bit of cheese on top. I downed that with another 14 oz of water, but it didn't fill me up. So I made a sandwich- 2 slices of Udi's gluten-free bread, some GF Buddig turkey lunch meat (I know, not the healthiest), and a little bit of mayo and mustard. I was still hungry after this, so I ate a lot of peanuts. I also drank down a cup of Tazo Zen green tea.

As I write this, I am drinking another green smoothie, same ingredients as yesterday. Mmmm, kale.

I struck out on exercising today. After work, I planned to make myself run, but then I got into my nice, warm, cozy apartment, and I was so hungry and tired... and it was so cold out... See? Bad.

I do get quite a lot of cardio at my work running around. I'm constantly moving and lifting things. Climbing ladders.

But that's no excuse! The point is to be able to work all day and then still exercise afterwards.

But I drank 84 oz of water today!

Do you realize in just two days it's Christmas?? (In case you are unfamiliar with retail, Christmas begins the day after Halloween).

Starting somewhere

So, I'm doing this health/fitness/nutrition blog thing not so much for other people to read, but more as a way to keep myself on track while I get healthy. It's a way to hold myself accountable and a way to track my progress. Not that I mind if other people read it. But I view this blog primarily as a journal.

Here is my basic plan for starting my journey to health:

1. Cut gluten completely out of my diet. (No, I have not been tested for Celiac, I just feel better when I don't eat gluten. My mom, however, is a diagnosed Celiac).
2. Go running at least three times a week. (Or some form of cardio for 60 minutes, 3 times a week).
3. Start taking vitamins and other much-needed supplements on a daily basis.
4. Drink a lot of water.

Those four guidelines are pretty much my goal for the first two weeks. After two weeks, I would like to add more steps.

Overall, I'd like to see what kind of improvements I can make in my physical and mental health in the next 30 days by sticking to a healthy lifestyle.

So the moment of truth would be November 28th.

Why specifically do I want to do this road to health thing?

Besides the obvious-wanting to be healthy and get in shape- I feel tired all the time.

My overall state of being is tired. I'm always tired. 90% of the time I feel unmotivated and hazy- like I can't focus on anything. I lack focus and drive. I have no energy.

I also have constant pain in my neck and shoulders that I would like to try to get rid of by living a healthy lifestyle.

One of the hardest things to do in life is to balance your full-time job with your health. How do you maintain your health and vitality when your 40 hour a week job seems to drain the life out of you?

I personally feel that it's a chicken and egg scenario. You can't find the energy to take care of yourself because you're not taking care of yourself. If you were taking care of yourself and eating right, then you would have the energy to stay healthy while working full-time. Right?

So I just have to start somewhere. This is starting somewhere.
